How to get more Instagram followers

How I got 100 followers within two weeks on Instagram

At the start of August I began with my personal branding on Instagram. My goal was to increase my followers and show to the people I know what I’m up to. I chose to show my work on my Instagram instead of awesome selfies and food. On my Instagram you can find my web design, logo design, and front-end work or things related to them.

I got this app, called Followers, on my iPhone. This app shows me who I’m following and who isn’t following me back, new followers, who unfollowed me and many more things. Checking out all the data, I saw the people I followed and also many people I thought followed me as well, people I called friends in the past. But no, even before I started posting actively they already unfollowed me. So you’re not interest in me? Then I’m not interested in you. Done! I cleaned my list! That was my first step.

The second step was to start posting every day. I started to do this every morning around 06:45 when we in Europe wake up for a week. My number of followers increased in the morning, but decreased in the afternoon/evening. Wait what? Yeah it’s one way to gain followers to go and follow people so they follow back and then unfollow them. I’m so sad that this works! Mostly it are spam/company accounts that do this.

So what did I do so that I got real people to follow me?

Two posts! In my second week I started doing two posts a day. The first on the same time I mentioned before and the second around 12:00/13:00. This helped to increase my followers as well. Besides that I started to interact more with other people. I asked some people to do projects together (only the people with the same passion for web design) and complimented on/liked others their work. This is fun!

Importance of Hashtags?

Hastags are vital, this is the way people will find you. You’ve got these really popular hashtags and hashtags with only a little volume. From the popular hashtags you’ll get most likes and comments (because of the spam/company accounts I’ve talked about). With the “normal” hashtags you’ll get less likes and comments probably (comments I’m not sure about) but they will be from real people most of the time. I still have to test this because two weeks is not enough to support these answers.

Hashtags I use:

Web design hashtags:
#webdesign #design #webdesigner #designideas #frontend #designed #designer #designs #userexperience #userinterface #ux #ui #programmer #webdevelopment #development #dev #graphicdesign #designlife #branding

Logo design hashtags:
#typography #logo #design #designlife #logodesign #graphicdesign #digital #designer #text #branding #logos #designstudio #branding #logoidea #logoideas #designlife #branding #branding101 #brands

Frontend hashtags:
#webdevelopment #programming #webdesign #programmer #webdeveloper #developer #computersience #backend #php #jquery #js #javascript #html5 #css3 #coding #devteam #design #desktop #userinterface #userexperience #ux #ui

Other hashtags:
#entrepreneur #workfromhome #personalbranding #freelancer #company #desksetup #apple #macbook #macos #ios #workspace #workplace

I hoped you enjoyed this article, I will keep growing my Instagram account and write more articles about it along the way. I see this as a big personal branding project what will hopefully help me in the future if I want to go freelance or get another job or who knows what!
